Delivering Strategic Transformation

Higher Education Case Study

Higher Education Case Study

Our Client is a world class research intensive university, delivering strategic projects and initiatives using our project delivery methods, tools and professional services which have been developed especially for the higher education sector. Our methodology has been blended with our Client’s methodology resulting in a shared project delivery method that is efficient, effective and universally accepted.

The Client

Our client has recently restructured its IT division and set an ambitious programme of work to deliver strategic projects to enable key objectives in research, scholarship and industry engagement. They required project delivery capability which could be ramped up or down depending on project resource requirements. Essentially, they wanted skilled project delivery “capacity on demand”.

The Strategy:

A key objective of our client’s strategy was to free up senior management time by implementing end-to-end project delivery services from a commercial partner. This included introducing efficient and workable programme management processes for planning, communicating and engaging key stakeholders and for managing risk in a strategic manner.

The Result:

By partnering with REM, our client has achieved its goal of a strategic partnership for the delivery of augmented project delivery services. They are no longer constrained by operational budgets or project resource lags when they need to deliver projects quickly. Project delivery risk has been shifted to a commercial provider, thus freeing up time for our client’s IT management group to focus on stakeholder engagement and strategic outcomes rather than operational issues.

The Rationale:

Universities all over Australia and the world are restructuring their IT departments to innovate and transform their institutions against a backdrop of league table rankings, funding cuts from government and competition for students and research funding. “Commodity IT” is being outsourced to cloud providers and HE resources are being re-allocated to value added functions in support of teaching and research.
To achieve these desired outcomes, strategic partnerships are being developed with agile commercial entities that can provide quality project staff augmentation at short notice, coupled with demonstrated knowledge and experience in delivering projects successfully in the HE sector.
