Mining Client Case Study

REM Consulting has a proven track record in delivering quality advisory outcomes for a large Australian multinational public mining company. This client produces in-demand battery materials to support the growth of electric vehicles.

Project Description

Our client recognised that modernising their control systems technology would enable value chain expansion and engaged REM Consulting to:

  • Undertake a detailed study of the control systems across the company’s assets
  • Provide a detailed report which assessed the current state of control systems
  • Identify any misalignment against industry or asset standards
  • Make recommendations to modernise and optimise the overall technology stack.

Challenge

The major challenge of this engagement centred on providing an accurate assessment of the control system components across all sites, based on the current knowledge that existed. Achieving a high level of accuracy was integral to enable and define the next steps of analysis.

Further challenges included:

  • Ensuring staff had the experience and domain knowledge of the specific mineral processing, operations and technologies involved
  • Engaging and managing multiple site-based stakeholders to provide and verify site-specific information in a timely manner
  • Understanding and translating industry and client-specific cybersecurity requirements

Outcome

The engagement resulted in a business report identifying opportunities around asset integrity, improvements, optimisations and expansions. The study also developed a control system strategy and roadmap. The report recommendations demonstrated the material business value that can be realised by optimising and modernising its current control technology stack, and were used as input into opportunity-framing documentation.
